Practice reopening

**UPDATE**

The practice is reopening today (Monday) at 1pm.

Apologies to any patients for any disruption.

__________________________

The practice staff have received a telephone call from a known violent offender which could be construed as posing a threat of serious violence involving the use of a firearm.

As a result the medical practice is currently locked down. Police officers are in attendance at this time.

Patients are advised not to attend the practice which will remain closed at least until Monday afternoon.

We will update this site with more details as they become available.

This is the first time I know of this every happening on PEI. Something is happening that is not the way PEI people do things.
This is a good eye opener!!!

Yes, one of the 'benefits' of the shortage of doctors in PEI is that patients like this don't have access to family doctors and so this kind of event is rare.

Being open to new patients all the time as we are means that we see all the patients no-one else wants or that have been fired by other doctors.

Violent patients cannot be seen in normal primary care safely. The only solution is to set up a secure location that has high security for such patients to be seen. Currently emerg is the only such location in PEI, but that is far from ideal. Or such patients simply go without care.

It is terribly stressful and frightening for our staff, which disrupts care for all our proper patients.

Dr. Coull as a new patient of yours and one whom haven't had a doctor pretty much forever - I really want to thank you for not only putting up with the likes of the 'rude' Islanders but also with incidents like this one (albeit extremely rare).

Personally, I'm very impressed with your services and staff and the technique/protocols that you endorse and use as I've heard and experienced so far.

Keep up the great work and please don't let the actions/remarks of few reflect the over-all gratitude most Islanders feel.

We are now open again.

We are as safe as any standard medical practice ever is.

We don't believe we are at any higher risk just now.

Thanks, Len.

Trouble patients make up small minority.

The great majority of patients are fantastic.
